About this deal

It features a full set of transport controls that, via the F-Keys button, can also have a second set of functions allocated to them.

By default, the encoders are assigned to a channel‘s first 8 sends, but by pressing display soft buttons you can instantly switch them to control channel inserts or Studio One’s macro parameters and engage mix automation. Mixer mode provides complete control over the mixer, including EQ, dynamics and sends as well as insert plugins. Despite repeating the process as documented in the Quick Start manual and on the Nektar web site a number of times, I couldn’t get a working configuration. While I am not a regular Reason user, it was easy to see that the level of integration was similar to that provided for Cubase. If, for example, the reverb time in your software is set to its maximum value, the encoder on your controller will not mirror this because it will still be set in the 12 o'clock position. I am using the Nektar Impulse LX61+ with no problems but there are times that I just want to use the P1 instead of The Nektar Impulse LX61+.

In our example, once both the red and white markers are inline, simply move the physical fader up to raise the level of track 9 to the desired position. g. Novation's SL MkII keyboards and Zero SL MkII control surface), I personally prefer the endless encoder approach where possible.

For this reason, the position of an encoder with a fixed start and end point would rarely reflect the position of the parameter that it was controlling in the software. For example, in mixer mode you can control the mute and solo statuses of each track, or in instrument mode the buttons might be used to toggle plug-in parameters. Interestingly, these do not appear to be the same parameters as the first eight defined within the VSTi’s own Remote Device Panel, so I’m not certain where the assignments are derived from. Your software has a ton of features and functions that can be activated using QWERTY shortcut commands. Your own user patches can also be imported or saved, so over time there will be quite a few patches to choose from in the Nektarine browser.

MIDI Jack Source*: Determines whether Panorama’s MIDI Out jack will transmit data generated by Panorama or from an external USB source such as a computer. Must admit, I'm finding it difficult to find good youtube videos on using the P1 for mixing, where Softube does a great job of showing you their unit in action and how it makes mixing easier. Panorama’s are great as ‘dumb’ controllers if you load a standard MIDI template up, you can map everything via the MIDI Remote assistant as any other controller.

The purpose of the multiple MIDI ports that appear after the installation process, for example, could be better explained. I must admit that so far, I've not used a lot of the in-depth features of the P4 in my own studio as I've mainly been focusing on getting used to all the features of Bitwig.

The screen on the Panorama will show a visual display of your current bank of faders, with a white mark on each to indicate the actual value of the parameter in the software. Whilst I have favoured keyboards with a heavier feel in the past (Akai's MPK range springs to mind), I always found that their firm response forced me to play more aggressively than I sometimes wanted to. While the humble mouse is most certainly well deserving of its place in the history of technological progress, replacing much of that mouse control with a MIDI-based hardware control device can really speed up one’s work. Of course Console 1's integration with Cubase and UAD is a plus, but I use more plugins than just those. However, if you're using something other than Reason and/or Cubase then I would still say that the Panorama is worth your consideration. Whilst I admit that in some situations encoders with fixed start and end points can be handy (and there are controllers out there that offer both as part of their design, e. One of the key attractions of Panorama controllers is the number of physical controls that they provide you with. I think the keyboard action is nice and smooth (as nice as my other (old) controller - Korg Kontrol 49). Just like other MIDI controllers, they will work with all major DAW packages and come with pre-mapped templates for a number of other major DAWs, including Ableton (which I use!
